Enduro 3 2014 Edition

Proclaiming to be one of the India's most challenging endurance adventure sport, Enduro3 to certain extent fits itself into this category. Running in its 12th edition, Enduro3 indeed puts a challenge to every one who wants to prove they are fit. Its a team event, each consisting of 3 players, with a mandate of 1 female player. Although last year this was relaxed for open category with all men category. It has different categories almost you can think of Open, Collegiate, Doctors etc. Race itself is again subdivided into different distances depending on the main categories like Open, Amateur etc.

Few things to consider for this race, officials are present at the different points to note the details of your team, if you are last in the category or beyond the stipulated time considering the last second contestants, there is high chance you are eliminated from the race, you may in that case can choose to continue on your own risk. WATER !! and other basics needs are not provided in the race, in simple words race officials are not responsible for anything which comes up during the race, even when the case you are retired/eliminated from the race half way into the race. These things apart, this race by far means tests your endurance, finishing the race in itself is a good achievement and getting on to podium would be icing on the cake.

Globeracers Nilgiris 100 - Ooty !!

Although actively involved in running and other hang outs for couple of months now, most of the time work took a toll on me to be back here on the blog. Getting a breather now, I am writing about this event called 'Globeracers Nilgiris 100'. A ultra distance running event held in Ooty [Octamund].

Ooty has always been the get out for most of the Indians, but ever imagine running a ultra distance here in the beautiful valley, probably with good and hospitable weather condition for the runner, although I don't guarantee you the same with route for the obvious reason, one will be running at an altitude of almost around 2300m above sea level. That goes for the fact, but this race is something I feel would off course test your endurance but giving you the best of the running experience.

Race day for men only ultra is 21st December 2013 and women only on 22nd December 2013. Registration closes by 4th November 2013. Hope to see you there.

Race disciplines & other useful info can be found in the below link.

Randonneuring !!!

Recently I came across this word ‘Randonneuring’ while browsing internet, initially puzzled to judge where do I put this word into my little known grammar. Failed to recognize which parts of the speech it falls into, I googled it and came to know more about it. In wiki, “Randonneuring is a long-distance cycling sport with its origins in audax cycling. In randonneuring, riders attempt courses of 200 km or more, passing through predetermined "controls" (checkpoints) every few tens of kilometres  Riders aim to complete the course within specified time limits, and receive equal recognition regardless of their finishing order. Riders may travel in groups or alone as they wish, and are expected to be self-sufficient between controls. A randonneuring event is called a randonĂ©e, brevet or sometimes by the more general term cyclosportive, and a rider who has completed a 200 km event is called a randonneur. The international governing body for randonneuring is Audax Club Parisien (ACP), which works with other randonneuring organisations worldwide through Les Randonneurs Mondiaux (RM). Randonneuring is popular in France, and has a following in the Netherlands, Belgium, United Kingdom, Australia, USA, Canada and India.” The explanation ended with India being one of the followers of this sport. No wonder, India has long standing history of embarrassing things which flow from western side. Due respect, this time it was for good.

With curiosity, I started looking for events that are conducted in India and in particular Bangalore. This time no wonder, I have bought new cycle and would like to try something like this, which off course stands me out in the crowd, why not?. Seriously, it’s not about standing out of crowd by cycling 100 kms, 200 kms etc but rather being the crowd, I felt even a thought of this would put you one step ahead, it will help you to understand yourself better may be in terms of your mental, physical strength and obviously the fun involved in attempting which is the best part of it.  I came across India version of randonneuring which comply to international standards framed by Audax. There are quite lot of groups which organize the events in India under the naming AUDAX INDIA RANDONNEURS spread across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangaluru, Goa & Pune. They organize events under different categories 200km, 300km etc.

There are few acronyms used are listed below
BRM : Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux - BRMs are rides called Brevets, of fixed distances that are to be completed within specified time limits. The rides of 200, 300, 400 and 600 kms are approved and governed  by the ACP.

SR : Super Randonneur - An SR is a Randonneur who completes a full Series of Brevets in one ACP Calendar Year. One needs to be an SR in the PBP year to qualify for PBP!

ACP : Audax Club Parisien - Is the club that administers and oversees the conduct of BRMs worldwide.

PBP : Paris-Brest-Paris - PBP is a 120 yr old cycling event, a 1200 km ride in France organised by ACP every 4 years.

AIR : Audax India Randonneurs - AIR is the all India Organisation of Randonneurs, which is recognised by ACP for conducting and overseeing all BRMs and Audax events in India.

Randonneuring events must be undertaken within set time limits. There is some regional variation in these, but the following list is typical:

  • 200 km - 13.5 hours (14 hours in the UK, as in the original events.)
  • 300 km - 20 hours
  • 400 km - 27 hours
  • 600 km - 40 hours
  • 1000 km - 75 hours
  • 1200 km - 90 hours (or 80 or 84 hours by choice)
  • 1400 km - 116:40 hours (optionally 105:16 or 93:20 hours)

Organisers are usually free to reduce the maximum speed. Above details are listed in the site with other informations.

Hyderabad Marathon 2013 - Registration Open

Oh !! Hyderabad Marathon is back again. Just feels like 2012 run took place few weeks back. Last years run was my second half marathon after I ran Mumbai marathon in January. Hyderabad well, treated me good but not the run. I was expecting to finish the run better, but let me tell you the course is good to test your marathon skills, every time you think the run is getting easy it starts testing you. Out of the three marathons I ran in 2012, Mumbai Marathon, Hyderabad Marathon and Chennai Marathon, I reckon Hyderabad Marathon to be more tougher because of the course and may be lack of people around to cheer you. Hyderabad Runners are among the most active runners in India and running this marathon will surely be something you should look for.

Also look for a good weekend outing to some places around, Golkonda fort, Sarlarjung Museum, Birla Temple, delicious food at Paradise and Chutneys.

Registrations are open for the marathon and event is scheduled on 25th August 2013. Wishing you all the best and hope to see you there.

Malegalalli Madhumagalu Show

"Malegalalli Madhumagalu" is a well-known mega novel of Rastrakavi Kuvempu. Malegalalli Madhumagalu is a complex novel that depicts the conflict between tradition and modernity, Christianity and Hinduism, love and marriage and the individual and society in the Malnad region of Karnataka in the 19th century.

All the drama lovers, this show is one which you can't afford to miss. This is unique show by Kalagram. I am eagerly looking forward for this show, I hope so do you.

Few details:

Guys are you up for the theatre marathon !!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally I made it to the show on 17th May. Time I got to know about this show somewhere by 28th April, that's when I wrote above blog with show details, things were held up at planning stage. I was looking for some ones company, which I didn't get, obviously it was drama, more obvious it was 9 hour long drama. In between these days, I was travelling to my home town for one or the other reason. With TCS10K on Sunday, I dared to fix my plan for watching the show on Friday night, then rest on Saturday and run on Sunday. I travelled to the venue Kalagram, Bangalore University on Friday evening and believe me it took 3 long hours to reach there amid changing 3 buses and a rick. I eventually reached to the show at 9.10, to my luck show started at 9 else I would have missed good 40 mins of the show.
Well, the show started at one of the amphitheatre inside Kalagram, with a descent crowd turned up for it, I could see lots of actors on the stage, and stage itself was so huge and well designed, you need to literally turn your head 180 degrees either side to watch few scenes. Songs where played to which actors danced and went around the stage. Conversations on the stage where very clear and I could hear all the jokes played, all the silent conversation the actors used on stage. First break came after around 2 hours into play, having missed my dinner, I had some snacks which were priced decently high. I had tea and moved to second stage which was around 50 meters distance. Show continued to please me with excellent acting, dialogue delivery and jokes. Costumes were excellent, I could feel malenadu region was just brought in front of the audience. I could make out how Kuvempu played with characters & understood the traits of each of character before putting it on to paper, something which is beyond ones cognizable ability. After the second part, there was break of 15 mins and we moved to third location. This part of the story captured more of the emotional part with few laughter moments. I could see lots of things happening in part 3 of the story which were intervened from the start of the story. Finally had the last break of the drama and everyone gathered at the last stage area where people sat on the floor, few already occupied place to sleep and sometime later I could hear their snores. Saying "All well that ends well" to some extent was applicable to this story except for the good message that is showed through a bit of dramatic end. To know what that is and experience this magnum opus, watch Malegalalli Madhumagalu.
Kudos to the MM team !!!!
Cast of Malegalalli Madhumagalu - only few captured
P.S: Show is extended till 4th June 2013.
